HAILSHAM is a market and union town and head of a petty sessional division, and a parish, situated near the river Cuckmere and on the road to Eastbourne, with a station on the Brighton and South Coast railway and the branch line to Tunbridge Wells, 54 miles from London, 13 west from Lewes, 14 south-west from Battle and 7 north from Eastbourne, in the Southern division of the county
